The international and local conglomerates emerging in the city have turned Dubai into a multi-cultural environment making it a dynamic place to live and work.
In order to legally work here, the company applies for the employee's visa to the Ministry of Labour, provided all valid and necessary documents are furnished by the applicant and that both parties have come to an agreement.
The normal maximum working hours are eight per day or 48 per week. In practice, commercial and professional firms work 40-45 hours a week. The weekend for office workers has traditionally been Friday and Saturday.
There are 10 days of public holidays (paid) in any year. And the employee is entitled to 30 days annual paid leave. This is in addition to public holidays, maternity leave for women and sick leave.

Dubai is one of the seven emirates and has transformed into a vibrant and gigantic city, attracting a deluge of workers, investors, and visitors from all over the world. The city's boldness in designing urban spaces makes Dubai "the model of the 21st century". Aside from world-record architectural structures, Dubai features many places of interests and activities such as the white sandy beaches offering action-packed water sports, international clubs and bars, family themed parks and the famous dessert safari.
Accommodations are usually subsidized but in some cases, companies provide living allowance to give the employee freedom to choose where to settle. The bulk of the expatriate population resides in districts outside the old city and in the new Dubai.
The education system is diverse, with many international schools as there is no government institution for expatriate children. Parents can select from the US, International, or UK teaching standards. All these schools charge tuition fees.
The health care standard in the UAE is impressive, both in public and private sectors. Dubai has many well-equipped hospitals and clinics. The Dubai Department of Health and Medical Services runs the government hospitals and local clinics.
When safety and security come to mind, Dubai is recognised as one of the safest cities in the world and relatively crime-free. The Dubai Police are very efficient at ensuring these protocols.
